Momentous Moves Afoot at Meiring Primary

The launch of the Khanya laboratory at Meiring Primary is proof positive that ‘rural’ does not mean ‘backwards’ or ‘backwater’.  Technology is bringing this school into the 21st century and educators and learners could not be more enthusiastic about the exciting developments at the school.

Partners in the project - PPC, Wynkelders & KhanyaThe launch event on 19 September 2008 was a celebration of partnerships and representatives of the partners – PPC, Riebeeck Kasteel Wynkelders and Khanya – attended the event.  Principal, Mr S Heynse, thanked the partners for the dream Learners show their skillsthat they have helped to realise at the school.

Gail Ahrends, Khanya Co-ordinator in the West Coast Region, reminded learners and educators that while computer skills were a fantastic by-product of a computer laboratory, the primary focus in the Khanya laboratory was to be curriculum delivery.  She also urged the school to make good on their intention of opening the laboratory to the community for computer literacy lessons.

Guests were treated to an item of song by the Grade 6 learners and then watched as learners went throGrade 6 learners singugh their paces in the laboratory.

With their partners at their side, Meiring Primary is all set to make great changes in the way teaching and learning takes place in Riebeeck Kasteel.
