Progress as Paardekop Primary Launch into Technology

The small disadvantaged community served by the Paardekop Primary school took their first steps towards becoming part of the Age of Technology with the launch of their Khanya computer laboratory on 4 December 2008.

Learners engage with technologyThe launch event was attended by the owner of Paardekop farm, Mr G van Zyl;  Dalena van der Vyver, Khanya facilitator at the school;  sponsors, parents and the learners.

A high point in the history of the school, the launch was celebrated by all connected with the school.  Access to technology and the development of technology skills that will now be possible at Paardekop Primary will elevate these learners to a level playing field with all other children in the Western Cape.  This was reiterated by Dalena van der Vyver in her address when she stated that a quality education makes children from all walks of life equal.Lunch prepared by educators

Guests tour the Khanya labPaardekop Primary learners expressed their gratitude for all that has been done for them through the performance of a dance.  Guests were conducted on a tour of the laboratory and then enjoyed a sumptuous spread prepared by the educators.

Thanks to technology and the Khanya Project, even this small rural school and its learners and community now have the opportunity to be active members of the global community.
