PROJECT INFORMATION

Education Week - South Africa

Education Week Convention and Learning Expo
28 - 30 September 2010
Emperors Palace, Johannesburg

Education Week looks at critical issues affecting schools, FET colleges and universities, and provides a forum for representatives of all these sectors, as well as government, publishers, e-learning providers and corporates, to identify what needs to change and how, what new technologies and ways of thinking can enhance teaching and learning, and how to equip students for the demands of the workplace. The challenges facing the education sector cannot be addressed in isolation, and Education Week brings together individuals with diverse areas of interest, knowledge and skills to share their ideas and work in unison to ensure that educational institutions adequately prepare our youth to become productive members of society, and eventually take their place as our future leaders.

Honourable Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, will be sharing her vision on how to develop, maintain and support an education system for the 21st century, and joins a speaking faculty that includes representation from the Departments of Higher Education and Training, Science and Technology, and Communications.

Education Week features over 60 of the industry's most recognised speakers presenting three conference tracks on Basic Education, Further and Higher Education and Education Technology as well as five pre-conference master classes and a workshop on digital publishing geared specifically towards educational publishers.

Three conference streams

  • Basic Education – addresses critical issues such as teacher training and support, teaching methodology, school functionality, assessment and quality control.
  • Further and Higher Education – perspectives from learning institutions and the business sector on quality assurance, distance education, education funding and aligning education and training programmes with the needs of the workplace.
  • Education Technology Indaba – looks at how technology can enhance teaching and learning, create collaborative learning opportunities and accelerate transformation to ensure that African learning institutions are on par with their global counterparts.

Master classes - Education Week 2010 will feature five separately bookable pre-conference master classes on:

  • Coaching and mentoring for curriculum and subject advisors
  • Mobile learning to empower educators
  • Digital literacy and ICT skills for educators
  • Innovative education and leadership practices in FHE
  • Building action scorecards for education

Besides the master classes, we offer a workshop on digital publishing geared specifically towards educational publishers.
