Metropole East
Metro East Education District serves the Presidential Nodal Zone of Khayelitsha, the Helderberg basin, Kuils River, Kraaifontein and surrounds. The Khanya Project is well placed to empower especially the indigent sector of this community by facilitating their access to global opportunities through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at school.
The Regional Director of this District formalised their relationship with the Khanya Project by establishing an Information Technology (IT) Task Team. This team is responsible for the good relations, not only between District and Khanya, but also between Khanya and the schools in the area. The co-operative and inclusive relationship incorporates Circuit Managers, Curriculum Advisers and schools. Circuit Managers assist with the selection of schools and are kept abreast of progress in the Khanya Project at schools. The co-operation and support of Curriculum Advisers and Circuit Managers of this District enables schools to accept accountability for and ownership of the laboratories.
The District team and their Khanya Project counterparts keenly anticipate the moment when all schools in this region are linked to the Internet and use ICT confidently and competently for curriculum enhancement.
