Metropole South

Mitchells Plain, identified as a President Nodal Zone, forms part of the community served by Metro South Education District.  As such, this area will enjoy specific attention from the Khanya Project. Schools, which generally would not have had the financial or human resources to facilitate the delivery of curriculum using ICT, have benefited from the partnership. Although the District selects schools for partnerships, Khanya adapts its strategy according to the needs and goals of schools. Those that have the capacity to establish their own infrastructure benefit from the guidance and support of Khanya's Curriculum Facilitators.

A six-strong team of schools from this area is engaged in a project, which Khanya and the Shuttleworth Foundation have enabled, to test the viability of OpenSource in schools. The proactive approach of this District, strong proponents of technology in education, inspired their Information Technology (IT) Manager to use his initiative to design a portal for an Intraweb that is widely used by schools. Schools in this area can only benefit from what promises to be a dynamic relationship between Khanya and Metro South Education District.
