Eden / Karoo
The Khanya Team in the Eden and Central Karoo Education District serves the area stretching from Beaufort West, a Presidential Nodal Zone, in the north to Heidelberg in the west and Plettenberg Bay in the east.
This District, geographically the largest Education District, includes the coastal plain to the south of the Outeniqua Mountain range as well as the Small Karoo and the Great Karoo.
The District Head Office is in George, the sixth oldest town in South Africa, and the capital of the Southern Cape. Bonnie Sesenyamotse, District Director, and Christelle Barkhuizen, Khanya District Co-ordinator, continue to cultivate the excellent relationship that exists between the Khanya Project Team and the District Management Team. This partnership is given impetus by the District Management Team that includes Jan Theron and his team of Circuit Managers and Alta Raath and his team of Curriculum Advisers. Christelle is supported in her role by Bertus Basson, Curriculum Project Manager, and and excellent team of facilitators. The Eden and Central Karoo Education District team would not be able to function effectively without the support of Stefan Coetzer, District Services Manager, and technician Henk Louw.
George is the centre of the Garden Route, situated on a ten kilometre coastal plain between the majestic Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean.
Schools served by this District benefit from the consultation and collaboration between the District Management Team and the Khanya Team. The District Management Team selects schools for participation in the Khanya Project. The Khanya team regularly communicates progress of the project in schools. Effective delivery of the curriculum using Information and Communication Technology is enhanced by the spirit of transparency that underpins the Khanya Project's approach to curriculum support in this Education District.
