Belhar Secondary

Belhar Secondary had established its own computer laboratory to teach the Grade Eight learners basic computer skills. Their vision states that they want to catapult their learners into the technological world, making them ideal candidates for a partnership with the Khanya Project, which they joined in February 2004. As a result of this partnership, they received a second laboratory.

Information and Communications Technology is used to focus on curriculum delivery in Mathematics. The excitement at using this 'new' method of teaching permeates the community. Educators are enthusiastic towards their training under the guidance of a Khanya Curriculum Facilitator since they recognise in Khanya a vehicle that will propel them on the path to realising their vision.

In a recent development at the school, a state of the art Sound House has been installed by the Khanya Project in collaboration with the Paul Bothner Music Group at Belhar Secondary School. In this Sound House educators and learners from a number of schools will be able to enjoy a musical multi-media experience using the latest computer technology and software.

The recording studio adjacent to this sixteen station computer laboratory has been fitted with quality equipment that will give learners and educators access to sound engineering skills and experiences.

A core group of educators and curriculum advisors will enjoy initial training in an interactive and outcomes-based course and assist the greater school music fraternity to benefit in the future. The Sound House truly adds glitter to this Arts and Culture Focus School.

The technological future at Belhar Secondary seems secure with learners having access to technology in Mathematics and in the Sound House. Educators too value the contribution that the Khanya Project and the technology they have installed at the school makes to the learning and teaching experience at this institution of excellence.
