A Project of the Western Cape Education Department
KHANYA SCHOOLS

Parkvale Primary

Parkvale Primary started its own computer centre and was rewarded by Telkom for its initiative, by providing them with a computer centre, networked to a server and a printer.

The focus of the school is to bridge the digital divide, creating access to information and communications technology that will assist learners, educators and communities to improve their own circumstances and opportunities.

Khanya became involved with a new fresh approach, donating a further ten computers and shifting the focus to curriculum delivery and to training the educators. It was agreed that the community at large, who see themselves as the custodians of the laboratory, must take ownership of the centre and protect the equipment.

Adult literacy and business opportunities will be addressed in the near future to ensure that the laboratory strengthens a sound ethos and unity in this impoverished area. The school is moving towards achieving their rightful place in the educational fraternity by completing their modular training and sharpening their use of ICT in curriculum delivery.
