Elsies River High, via sponsorships and fund raising, equipped their first computer laboratory but with over 1600 learners it was an impossible task to expose every learner to the technology. In addition, the school was identified as a commercial focus school for Further Education and Training (FET) in 2006 and this would require that all learners from grade 10 had regular access to the computers. A second computer laboratory was therefore vital.
Their second laboratory, a Khanya computer laboratory, has been completed. The educators are eager to use the facility and eleven educators thus far have received extensive ICT training to be able to meet the challenges of using technology in curriculum delivery.
Owing to the large number of pupils attending Elsies River High, the focus in the laboratories will be on Mathematics and some of the other FET subjects.
