Livingstone High School

Livingstone High School situated in Claremont in Cape Town has been acknowledged by the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), for its excellent results in the Grade 12 examinations by sponsoring the building of a school hall. In 1994 the school raised funds and with the help of a sponsor, acquired a computer laboratory that was used for Computer Literacy Training and academic and financial administration. In recognition of the school's commitment to academic excellence, the WCED selected the school for participation in the Khanya Mathematics Pilot Project.

The school benefits from the continuous support of a Khanya Curriculum Facilitator, who provides assistance and training in the selected education software and the integration of the computer laboratory lessons with the school's lesson programme. Since 2003, there has been a forty percent increase in the number of learners taking Mathematics on the higher grade. Learners in other subjects, such as Physical Science, have also benefited from computer-based learning while the junior grades use the program 'My Life' to enhance Life Orientation lessons.

The success, enthusiasm and commitment of the entire Livingstone community serve to motivate educators and the Khanya Team. They are proof that Information and Communications Technology has the capacity to transform and enhance the delivery of the curriculum in Mathematics. As proof of their commitment to this, they have remodeled their old disused computer laboratory and installed an Interactive White Board.
