Qingqa-Mntwana Primary

Qingqa Mntwana is an enthusiastic, committed and well run school in Crossroads. The whole school community was immensely excited when the Khanya laboratory was opened for use in April 2007. Since then Qingqa Mntwana has gone from strength to strength in using ICT to support their curriculum.

The educators and learners are very proud of their laboratory, this is seen by the pristine condition in which it is kept. The facility is fully utilised - every lesson sees a queue of eager learners waiting for their turn in the laboratory. The Khanya laboratory is used by all learners from grade R to 9. It is so encouraging to see grade R students coming into a laboratory, being able to log in and to use the software packages to help with ideas like their numbers, colours and shapes. The software used by learners focuses focusing on developing their numeracy and literacy skills. The educators have embraced the new technology in their school, using it to create new teaching resources for their learners.

The school has an excellent link with Kildare Place Primary School in Dublin, Ireland. The 24/7 internet connectivity is allowing this link to thrive. Their first web conference with the Irish school was a momentous occasion. The learners are now planning a weekly e-newsletter that will be shared with their Irish friends.

A donation has allowed Qingqa Mntwana to install an Electronic Whiteboard in a classroom that can be used by all classes. Educators and learners alike have been keen to learn how to manipulate objects and use software programs by the means of touching the screen. The learners enjoy these new interactive lessons so much that it is sometimes difficult to get them to leave the classroom!
