Glendale Secondary

Glendale Secondary School opened its doors to the community of Rocklands in 1983. Since then the school has grown steadily in the number of learners it has enrolled each year. At the heart of their 'success' as a school in an underpriviledged community is the principle that it is not what happens to you that matters, but how you react to it. The staff at Glendale Secondary strives to encourage the learners to believe in themselves and in their ability to achieve both academically and personally.

Glendale Secondary aims at becoming a leader in the use of ICT to support curriculum delivery. The Khanya laboratory is well-established; it has a full timetable and learners use software to develop their mathematics skills. A new laboratory is being fitted that will focus on the delivery of CAT.

An example of the school's progressive approach is evident in the deployment of data projectors in Science and Maths class rooms. The learners can now experience the advantages of simulations and high quality teaching resources for every lesson.

The school's next step is to encourage the use of Mindset in classrooms and the promotion of team teaching to larger groups. In addition, the staff are particularly excited about the arrival of the new Electronic Whiteboards which will be used to support Science, Maths, GIS and Languages.

The school aims to combine all of the ICT resources mentioned above to give the students at Glendale a dynamic and stimulating learning environment.
