Western Cape Sport School
Established in 2007 in Kuilsriver in the what had previously housed the Bellville Education College, the Western Cape Sport School focuses on learners with exceptional sporting potential, primarily from previously disadvantaged communities.
The Sports School is supported by both the Department of Education and the Department of Sport and, as such, it will combine the importance of both an academic and an organised sport programme for exceptionally talented learners. This school will become the hub for sport development in conjunction with sport federations and learners will in time ensure the representative nature of sporting teams, administration, management and coaching in the Western Cape.
Khanya has been involved with the school from its inception with a view to enhancing curriculum delivery and allowing learners to gain the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values that will contribute to their own success. The technology established by Khanya at the school will compliment delivery of both teaching and coaching methodology and will aid educators and learners in this focused environment with effective research resources.
Everyone at the Sports School is very excited about the development of their laboratory. Through the use of CAMI software as well as the Mindset technology that has also been installed will enhance and improve the learners’ results.
While the provision of educator training has yet to start, an atmosphere of expectation, and occasionally anxiety, permeates the school. Considering the empowering experiences that other Khanya partner schools enjoy, this school stands to reap the rewards of patience as they stand on the threshold of the world of information accessed through Information and Communications Technology.
