KHANYA SCHOOLS

Kairos Primary

Kairos Primary evolved out of a desperate need for an additional school to serve the children of Delft. The school had its origins in Voorbrug, Delft, where they initially started in a wing of the high school. In 2005 they managed to secure premises in an old municipal building in Eindhoven that had been renovated as a school and, finally, in 2006 Kairos Primary opened in its new premises in Leiden Avenue.

Kairos Primary is delighted to be a partner of the Khanya Project. Through the technology that has been introduced at the school the entire school community can now be empowered. Educators and learners are rapidly becoming computer literate and the educational level of the school is being raised.

In the Khanya computer laboratory educators are developing the skills and the knowledge to use the technology to manage their administrative work electronically. They are also being trained to use technology to deliver the curriculum. With access to the internet, educators now have a wealth of resources to inform and shape interesting innovative lessons that reawakens their learners’ interest in learning.

Learners at Kairos Primary eagerly anticipate each session in their Khanya computer laboratory. They feel that they too are finally being given the opportunity to develop skills in line with the demands of the 21st century work place. Through regular contact with the technology and the educational software learners are addressing weaknesses in literacy and numeracy while they develop these skills in computers.

A whole new world of learning has come to Kairos Primary and all roleplayers are very excited; they are determined to use the opportunity to create a better future for everyone connected to the school and they also intend introducing evening and Saturday classes so that the community can become computer literate too.
