Charleston Hill Secondary
The community served by the Charleston Hill Secondary School took it upon itself to repaint the entire school in anticipation of its new Khanya computer laboratory. Although situated in a very poor area plagued by a drug problem, CHS pride themselves in keeping their environment neat at all times.
Typical of the pro-active nature of this school, they raised funds through various efforts such as braais, dances and sports days and managed to generate enough money to purchase 20 computers thanks to the assistance of a generous donation from Meadow Feeds. At a nominal fee, these computers are used for computer literacy training for learners and members of the community. The school also has innovative plans to open an internet cafe for the use of the community and, in the spirit of community which CHS embodies, they have also already run successful training sessions for members of the community. Income generated in this way will be used to sustain the future of the Khanya computer laboratory.
Staff and members of the community worked till late at night to complete the infrastructure of the Khanya laboratory. The Khanya laboratory is now fully operational and educators are very eager to use it. They make full use of it for the typing of their exam papers and it is also used for the printing of reports for the learners.
CHS is very proud to be a member of the Khanya family and they are positive that the laboratory will ensure a better future not only for the learners who pass through it, but for the entire community in its efforts to uplift itself.
