Kayamandi Secondary

Kayamandi High School is situated in the township of Kayamandi, in Stellenbosch. Originally this township was formed to house local workers in the farm and wine industry. Since then, the township has evolved into its own successful entity. Kayamandi High School is an educational institution where learners are encouraged to achieve their best potential. The staff strives to provide each learner with the best opportunities, a safe learning environment and a stimulating education. Every learner receives the necessary skills and acquired knowledge to problem solve and to face the challenges of the future.

It is in this spirit of doing the very best for their learners that Kayamandi High became involved with the University of Stellenbosch who provided computers, training and facilitation with learners to further their success rate in English, Mathematics and Science with a view to acceptance at the University. Khanya has provided a server for their computer laboratory and will also train the educators in ICT so they may use the facility for curriculum delivery.

The educators really enjoy working in the laboratory to develop their lesson plans and do their administrative tasks while the learners regard a computer laboratory as a real privilege which will help them to access future careers previously closed to them. The laboratory is used mainly for CAT and this naturally limits its availability for other learning areas. This together with the size of the school, has resulted in pressure being brought to bear for the school, when their resources allow it, to establish a second laboratory so that all the learners will be able to benefit from the technology. The learners enjoy their lessons in the computer laboratory so much that the educator finds it difficult to stop them when they have to move to other classes.
