KHANYA SCHOOLS

Boontjieskraal Primary

The community of Boontjieskraal Primary had never been exposed to computer technology. It was clear from the beginning that Khanya would bring a new dimension to the learning and academic progress of all associated with the project. The school became part of the Khanya Project during 2002.

Despite the nervousness of the staff when they started, they are now in full control. Definitely a school and educators to look up to! They realised that the technology would allow them to cope with their combined classes more effectively. This proved to be the case as they used their computer knowledge in combination with the multigrade training that they had until the end of 2005.

Improvement in Languages, Mathematics and Computers Skills has been clearly noticed after the grade 6 intervention. Learners are very enthusiastic and enjoy learning much more. Very few experiences can compare with the delight on the faces of learners as they recognise a letter or discover they can count in groups of five rather than using their fingers and toes.

Boontjieskraal Primary is surely an example of a school making use of the Khanya laboratory to its maximum therefore it is no surprise that they became one of Khanya's e-schools on 28 October 2005. This means that they are now independently moving forward with the technology supporting the curriculum and the Khanya facilitator assumes the role of guardian and can be called upon by the school for advice and guidance.
