KHANYA SCHOOLS

Ruiterbos Laerskool

Educating the children of the labourers who work on the local farms has been a priority at Ruitersbos Primary since 1898. The land on which the school is built was originally donated by the then owner of the farm Glencoe and, over the years, a number of small farm schools in the area have been incorporated into Ruitersbos Primary.

While Ruitersbos Primary may be small - they have 93 learners - they think BIG and part of this mindset is the introduction of technology at the school that will empower these rural learners to become active members of the global village; that will give them the skills to gain meaningful employment in a market driven by technology.

With extremely limited financial resources, technology has always been outside the reach of the school. As part of the Khanya Project, this vision will now be realised. An IEWB, a data projector and a laptop computer will create an interactive learning environment that will bring the world into this geographically isolated classroom and open the minds of these learners to the possibilities available to them through technology.

Ruitersbos Primary believes in the optimal development of each learner, in the successful professional functioning of every educator and in the maximum involvement of each parent. Their partnership with the Khanya Project has the potential to meet all of these needs.
