Worcester Secondary
The Khanya Computer Laboratory enjoys pride of place at Worcester Secondary School, where the Khanya Project supports curriculum delivery in Mathematics and Science through Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Learners are so enthusiastic about the resources to which they have access that they spend their free time in the computer laboratory. A Khanya Curriculum Facilitator provides continuous training for educators in the use of educational software and the integration of that software with lesson plans. The improvement in learners' examination results reflects the dedicated efforts of learners, educators and the Khanya Team.
Now learners stand to benefit even more. Worcester Secondary has seized another opportunity initiated by a partnership between the Specialist Schools Trust (SST), and the Khanya Project. In September 2003 the principal of Worcester Secondary met the principal of their partner school, Rodborough Technology College, at a conference facilitated by the SST and the Khanya Project. This partnership will allow learners at both schools to improve their language skills through regular use of the email facility in the Khanya Computer Laboratory. But learners will be further empowered by the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experiences across continents.
Using Information and Communications Technology, educators at both schools will therefore be able to exchange knowledge, ideas and resources. This process has the potential to enrich the teaching experience and enhance learners' access to an education that prepares them for citizenship of the world. School communities, like Worcester Secondary School, and the Khanya Project embrace the challenges and opportunities that accompany the pursuit of educational excellence through ICT.
