Matjiesfontein LB Primary
Matjiesfontein is a very small multigrade school in a very isolated community. Computer technology is not a new concept for the educators and learners at this school as, prior to becoming part of the Khanya Project, they had three computers with educational software that were used by the learners. When they joined Khanya the School Management Team (SMT) decided to convert one of their two classrooms into a venue to accommodate their new networked computers and Interactive Electronic White Board.
This proactive school installed the infrastructure for their laboratory which now also serves as a community library and a resource for computer literacy lessons for parents. As the school is so small, all learners have regular intense exposure to the technology and the two educators at the school appreciate and benefit from the input of the Khanya facilitator who visits them regularly. They have embraced the new technology as an opportunity to refine their skills and they believe that the challenge of teaching learners ranging from Grade one to Grade seven in one classroom is going to become more meaningful as a result of the technology as learners will be able to progress at their own pace.
